lifelong learning

We are committed to developing the educational potential of the nation's cultural and sporting resources, raising standards of cultural education and training, and ensuring an adequate skills supply for the industries which it sponsors.

Our sectors already provide lifelong learning opportunities for all. For example, both the BBC and Channel 4 produce high quality and informative educational programmes.

In addition, museums, libraries, galleries, archives, arts organisations and the built and historic environments are educational resources for people of all ages and backgrounds. They have the potential to engage adult learners, including those with basic skills needs, who do not find formal education attractive or accessible.

We work with the Department for Education & Skills and NIACE, the national organisation for adult learning, to ensure our sectors give effective, productive and enjoyable lifelong learning opportunities.
