Department for Culture Media and Sport

dcms and the arts industry

DCMS is the sponsor Department for the arts, representing the industry's interests within Whitehall.

The Department helps the arts industry to flourish, both economically (with a focus on employment, turnover and exports) and artistically through the Arts Council, arts education work and initiatives like Creative Partnerships.

We also work to:

  • Develop relationships with key representative bodies and important players to discuss issues affecting the industry, from training to ticket touting
  • Research the opportunities and threats to the industry by drawing on the Creative Industries Mapping Document, the Wyndham and After Wyndham Reports on West End Theatre, and other important research
  • Develop indicators to measure the impact of our policies in this area
  • Identify issues holding back economic and artistic growth and work with the industry to overcome them
