What is Youth Music?
Youth Music is a national charity that funds and facilitates music-making for young people up to the age of 18, particularly those living in areas of social and economic need.

It was set up in 1999 and receives £10 million per year of National Lottery money provided through Arts Council England.

To date, Youth Music has reached over one million children and young people.

How does it work?
The charity works alongside the formal and community-based sectors to support music-making and training for young people across England.

Youth Music funding complements music in the national curriculum by supporting activities held mainly outside of school hours and delivered by non-profit making organisations

It funds a wide range of music-making across all styles and genres; from funk to folk, roots to reggae, jazz to junk, classical to choral, garage to gospel.

Funded activities include workshops, rehearsals, performances, one-to-one teaching and mentoring.

Youth Music also aims to support wider aspects of music-making through funding training for music leaders, as well as working strategically to bring together partnership organisations from across the music, education and social sectors.

How do I apply for Youth Music funding?
There are three Open Programmes that you can apply to for funding. Full information on these programmes, their criteria, guidelines and application forms can be found on the Youth Music website.

You can also contact the team for further information by calling 020 7902 1060.
