Arts promote cultural diversity
Our country is a rich diversity of vibrant cultures entwined with an equally varied and exciting range of arts.
Dance, music, theatre, poetry, story telling and many other art forms, all help to promote understanding and respect between our different cultures.
The arts provide a shared space for celebrating our differences; providing unique opportunities for us to make constructive changes to our lives and to the lives of our communities.
Cultural Diversity - at the heart of our work
DCMS and Arts Council England holds cultural diversity at the heart of all of our work; promoting social inclusion through support for diverse organisations, ensuring that we all have equal access to the very best of the arts.
The Arts Council believes in taking positive action to “share our riches and achieve greater equality of opportunity”. It does this through making funds available specifically for culturally diverse arts.
decibel is an Arts Council initiative designed to support and raise the profile of African, Asian and Caribbean artists in England. Comprising a cross art-form programme of project and events, decibel was launched in 2003 and is funded until 2008.
It has had notable successes in the performing and visual arts, and literature.
