What does the acronym JACBEE stand for ?

JACBEE stands for the Joint Advisory Committee on Built Environment Education. JACBEE was set up by Ministers in the Department for Culture Media and Sport (DCMS) and the then Department for Education and Skills (DfES) in 2003 to examine the potential of the contemporary and historic built enviornment as a learning resource for schools and the wider community.

In September 2004 the committee summarised its conclusions to Lord McIntosh, then DCMS Minister for Media and Heritage and Charles Clarke, then Sectretary of State for Education and Skills. Both Ministers have supported the committee's recommendations and DCMS and DfES published a joint report summarising the committee's findings in Spring 2005.

DfES is now the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF).
