facts and figures

The collection of alcohol, entertainment and late-night refreshment licensing statistics is the responsibility of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.

The first comprehensive data collection exercise under the new licensing arrangements took place in 2007. It is a new data collection, covering the 12 month period to 31 March 2007, that reflects the changes in licensing law. More information on the bulletin, which was published on 8 November 2007, can be found here.

Prior to the 2007 data collection the department published an interim fact sheet on 23 November 2006. These are broad estimates only, based on a relatively small sample of Licensing Authorities, and the new statistical bulletin should now provides more authoritative figures.

The department previously published data relating to alcohol licensing under the old licensing legislation. This can also be accessed from the Research and Statistics pages on this website.
