Today I got the chance to sit in a meeting with the manager of the Basketball Paralympics team who explained about the team and their journey to Beijing 2008. I learnt a lot about how they prepared for the games and the resources they needed while participating.

I started working on my project which will be focusing on the 2012 Olympic Games and I am finding everything very interesting at the moment.

I also met policy advisors for community sport, elite sport, schools and young people, international sport.

Today I got the chance to go to Canary Wharf where I met someone who works for the legacy team. He explained to me about how he works to makes sure that all the buildings that would be used for the 2012 Olympics can still be used after the games. He explained how important it is to make sure that there are plans to make sure that all these buildings are put to good use. He also gave me examples of previous countries which hosted the games that did not have any plans about what they were going to do with the buildings.

I also met someone whose work is about how transport will work during the 2012 Olympics. He explained to me about all the tubes, trains etc that are being put in place to make sure that people who come for the games will have transport to move around. He also explained to me how people who live in London will be able to go for work and school as usual during the games.

Today I went to houses of parliament and it was a very interesting and fun experience. I got the opportunity to go into the House of Commons and the House of Lords and I have to say it looks smaller in real life compared to how it looks on TV. I got to see the inside of both but I was really impressed by the House of Lords and also by the paintings of past Kings and Queens.  Believe it or not but I actually got a bit intimidated just by looking at a painting of King Henry VIII and Queen Victoria!

After coming back from the parliament I went for lunch and when I came back I continued working on my research project for the rest of the day.

Friday 4 September 2009

Today is the last day and I cannot get over the fact that the week has gone so quick.  I was late today because of the train and the day started with a meeting where all the staff members give an update of what has been happening during the week and what will be coming up the following week.

After the meeting I continued to work on my project and I have finished everything. Towards the end of the day I had to attend a meeting with Sol Campbell’s agent to talk about the charities he supports.

So I have finished my work experience and I have to say it was better than I expected. Usually when you hear about the London 2012 games you never really think about how much work there is and the effort that people are putting for everything to go smoothly come 2012. I have definitely learnt a lot and I have found this experience fun and exciting. The staff was really nice. All in all, this was a great experience and I have enjoyed it.
