A sustainable games
Making the Olympic Park a blueprint for sustainable living.
Sustainability was at the heart of our bid and we are committed to delivering not only the best, but also the most sustainable, Olympic and Paralympic Games of modern times.
The build for the 2012 Games will set new standards in development, with the Olympic Park and other venues being designed and constructed according to sustainable principles. The Games will also deliver a long-term legacy –inspiring sustainable living throughout the UK and bringing about genuine behavioural change.
Staging the London Games is giving us a unique opportunity to:
- Showcase the UK's path to sustainability in low carbon development and sustainable waste management practices
- Revitalise the Lower Lea Valley
- Create one of the largest parks in Europe for 150 years
- Reinvigorate the waterways
- Enhance biodiversity
We are working closely with the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games Ltd (LOCOG), the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA),the Greater London Authority (GLA), the Department for Environment, Rural and Food Affairs (DEFRA), Communities and Local Government (CLG), the Department of Energy and Climate Change(DECC) and the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) in developing a sustainable legacy programme.
