Club Links
The main aim of the Club Links workstrand - within the national school sports strategy - is to strengthen links between schools and local sports clubs and by doing so increase the number of children who are members of accredited sports clubs.
The target is to increase the percentage of 5 to 16 year-olds from School Sport Partnership schools who are members of, or participate in governing body or otherwise accredited sports clubs from 14% in 2002 to 20% by 2006. The programme is being delivered through the governing bodies of twenty-two sports. Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Canoeing, Cricket, Cycling, Football, Golf, Gymnastics, Hockey, Judo, Netball, Orienteering, Rowing, Rugby League, Rugby Union, Sailing, Squash, Swimming, Table Tennis, Tennis and Volleyball
In addition, 800 multi-skill clubs are being set up for primary school age children - two linked each School Sport Partnership by 2006. These clubs will provide additional opportunities for children to develop fundamental physical skills and to act as a stepping-stone into club sport.
We are also working with and funding the National Dance Teachers Association and Youth Dance England to develop dance links. This is helping improve links between School Sport Partnerships and community dance providers through action research, case studies and a guide on what represents a high quality school dance link.

School Club Links Publication April 4 2006 saw the publication of the 'School-club links - Recognising and achieving effective links between schools and sports clubs', brochure the latest in a series of documents that underpin the National School Sports strategy.
The Club Links programme is a fundamental part of this strategy and this booklet is designed to help strengthen the links between schools and local sports clubs, which will not only create a culture of participation from a young age but ensure a smooth, safe and natural transition from school to club organised sport.
