Football Foundation
One of the Government's key aims is to further enhance access to sport for children and young people and to achieve this we are committed to supporting grass roots football.
In July 2000, the Government teamed up with the Football Association and FA Premier League to form the Football Foundation.
The Football Foundation has since become the UK's largest sports charity with an annual income of £45m provided by the FA Premier League, the FA and Sport England.
The aim of the Football Foundation is to bring together Government and football to benefit communities and the grass roots of the game. It seeks to harness football's ability to act as a delivery vehicle for driving up participation in sport, social inclusion, health, education and motivational projects.
The majority of the Foundation's funding is directed at local facilities at the grass roots, e.g. mini-soccer pitches, changing rooms, new playing surfaces, indoor facilities, goalposts and equipment. It is also involved in community and education initiatives and stadium safety work.
Since its launch, the Foundation has committed £206m to over 2,200 facility, community and educational projects across England and Wales, worth in excess of £394m.
