Count Me In
The PAT10 report indicated that, but for a lack of evidence on the regeneration impact of arts and sport, cultural experiences could play a significantly greater role in neighbourhood renewal and other initiatives designed to tackle social exclusion.
To redress this, DCMS commissioned Leeds Metropolitan University's Centre for Leisure and Sport Research to study a range of projects addressing the effects of social exclusion, in key areas such as education, health, employment and crime, through arts- and sports-related activities.
The intention was to use the 14 projects selected to find out what works and establish some common core principles and, where possible, identify some aspects of good practice for future reference.
DCMS has found the resulting report valuable in establishing its social policy objectives and its findings have underpinned the design and development of subsequent initiatives in this field.
