The design team behind the Angel of the North and the National Police Memorial in St James’s Park has been chosen to create a permanent memorial to the victims of the 7\7 bombs in London.
Following a competitive tendering exercise run by the Royal Parks, lead consultant and engineering services will be provided by Ove Arup and Partners Ltd, teaming up with Carmody Groarke and Colvin and Moggridge Ltd to provide lead designer, architectural and landscape architect services.
Working to a total budget of £1 million, the team will now develop a design concept in close consultation with the project team and especially the bereaved family group. The memorial will be sited in Hyde Park.
Humanitarian Assistance Minister Tessa Jowell said:
“The impact on the families and friends of those who were killed or injured on 7th July 2005 will stay with them forever. It is fitting that we mark those events with a permanent memorial, and entirely right that the families’ wishes are paramount on issues such as the design and the setting.
“The team we have appointed have an excellent track record for producing work that captures the nuances of remembrance. I know they will produce a work that will do justice to the feelings and emotions of everyone affected.”
