Two National Lottery distributors – the New Opportunities Fund and the Community Fund – are to be merged.  This means that more than 50 per cent of the money raised for good causes will, in future, be distributed by a single body.  It will have a top priority to improve the quality of life in communities, and promote social inclusion.

Minister of State for the Arts, Tessa Blackstone, has placed a temporary bar on the export of a pair of William III silver wall sconces, both bearing the maker's mark of Thomas Corbett, which were originally supplied to Hugh, 2nd Baron Clifford of Chudleigh (1663-1730), of Ugbrooke Park, Devon.  This will provide a last chance to raise the money to keep the sconces in the United Kingdom.

Tessa Blackstone, Minister for the Arts, today announced the appointment of a new Royal Parks Advisory Board under the Chairmanship of Peter Ellwood. The new board will comprise Apurv Bagri, Sir Terry Farrell, Emir Feisal and Ylva French. The appointments are for four years.

Culture Secretary Tessa Jowell today announced the television licence fee increases effective from 1 April 2003.  A colour licence will cost £116.00 and a black and white licence will cost £38.50.
