Consultation on Ticketing and Ticket Touting

The Department for Culture Media and Sport is seeking views about the ticketing industry and the matter of ticket resales and ticket touting.
The Department has issued a consultation document which addresses a wide range of issues that are of concern to consumers and to those selling tickets for events. The Government, following the recommendation of the Select Committee in early 2008, does not favour legislation to prevent secondary sales. But new laws cannot be ruled out if voluntary measures do not succeed and conditions for consumers do not improve.
The consultation urges ticketing companies to tighten up sales of tickets if they want to prevent them being resold. Equally, the Government is seeking views on whether ticket resales should be restricted for certain events of outstanding national significance. Consumers have a role to play too, and the Government endorses existing schemes to raise awareness in consumers on how to buy tickets from reliable sources.
