Culture at the Heart of Regeneration

There is an emerging body of evidence, which suggests that culture is a key driver in the regeneration process and can help create sustainable communities. The government has published a consultation document, Culture at the Heart of Regeneration, which aims to build on the evidence and strengthen the use of culture in regeneration projects.

This consultation has now ended. The consultation period was 30 June - 15 October 2004.

The report looks at the regenerative effects of large cultural buildings as well as smaller community initiatives, assesses the economic and social benefits of cultural regeneration, and poses a series of questions designed to build up the body of evidence and to engage a wide range of stakeholders.

We are seeking the views of Other Government Department, Non Departmental Public Bodies, Local Authorities, regional bodies, community groups, private developers, cultural organisations, architects and any other interested bodies. The consultation will give rise to a delivery plan where we will set out how we are going to further promote the use of culture in regeneration.
