The DCMS / Wolfson Museums and Galleries Improvement Fund
The DCMS / Wolfson Museums and Galleries Improvement Fund was set up in 2002. It aims to improve the quality of displays, public spaces, environmental controls and access for disabled visitors in museums and galleries across England. The DCMS / Wolfson Fund makes £4 million available in each year.
Museums and galleries eligible to bid for money from the Fund include those sponsored by DCMS, designated university-based collections, museums with designated collections and museums with non-designated collections in regional hubs (please see below for a full list of eligible institutions).
Bids are assessed by an expert panel, with consideration given to issues such as the provision of social inclusion measures, the care and display of collections and the physical improvement of buildings and galleries.
The results of the fourth round were announced on 11 August 2005. More information about the successful museums and galleries can be found in the press notice.
The deadline for applications for the 2006/07 round of the Fund has now passed. Bids are currently being considered and an announcement of successful institutions will be made in summer 2006.
