Museums, Libraries and Archives Council
The Council for Museums, Archives and Libraries announced on 5 February 2004 that it has dropped the name "Resource" from its title. The organisation, which provides leadership across the sector and strategic advice to government, said it would be known in future as the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council, abbreviated to MLA.
MLA strives to ensure that museums, libraries and archives are known to all and widely used as key resources for creativity, lifelong learning, economic development and enjoyment.
MLA formally known as Resource was created by DCMS in 1999 to provide strategic leadership for the museums, libraries and archives communities. It became fully operational on 1 April 2000 and replaced the Museums and Galleries Commission and the Library and Information Commission. Mark Wood chairs a Board of 14 members. Chris Batt is Acting Chief Executive.
