Apsley House
DCMS is responsible for the maintenance of Apsley House, an elegant grade I listed house situated at Hyde Park Corner.
Apsley House, also known as "No 1 London", has been the London home of the Dukes of Wellington since 1817. The house was designed by Robert Adam 1771-78 and extended in 1828-30 by Benjamin Dean Wyatt. Apsley House was bought by the Duke of Wellington from his elder brother, Richard, Marquess Wellesley, in 1817.
Most of Apsley House is open to the public as the Wellington Museum, which is administered on behalf of DCMS by the Victoria and Albert Museum - more information can be found at the Victoria and Albert Museum's website

Other Historic Property
DCMS has ultimate responsibility for Somerset House in the Strand and the former Royal Naval College, Greenwich.

Both sites are now managed by independent charitable trusts - the Somerset House Trust and the Greenwich Foundation for the Royal Naval College respectively - and further information can be found at their web sites.
