Taking part: The national survey of culture, leisure and sport
What does taking part involve?
The Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) and its Non Departmental Public Body (NDPB) partners have commissioned BMRB Social Research, a highly respected research organisation, to conduct "Taking part" on our behalf.
All of the interviewers working on 'Taking part' work for "The operations centre" on behalf of BMRB. They are all required to carry the Market Research Society Interviewer Identity card, an example of which can be seen in the follwing 'Taking part leaflet' below. You can contact The operations centre or BMRB directly to check that the interviewer is one of our interviewers working in your area.
At some point throughout the year randomly selected household will receive a letter PDF (31kb) and a Taking Part leaflet PDF (210kb) providing information about 'Taking part' and requesting their participation. One week after these have been sent an interviewer will call at the address. If it is an inconvenient time the interviewer will arrange a more suitable time to return and complete the interview.
If the timing is convenient the interviewer will randomly select one member from the household, aged 16 or over, to complete the questionnaire. Once the person has been selected, the interviewer is not allowed to interview anyone else in the household.
Those who take part in this survey will be questioned at home by a professional interviewer. The interviewer will be able to enter your answers straight onto a laptop. This is where the questionnaire has been turned into a computer programme specifying the questions, the range, the structure of permissible answers, and the routing instructions.
