Nurturing creativity in young people - A report to Government to inform future policy
'Nurturing Creativity in Young People' is the report that follows the Creativity in Schools Review, which was led by Paul Roberts, Director of Strategy at IdEA (Improvement and Development Agency). Jointly commissioned by DCMS and DfES, the report sets out what more the Government can do to nurture young people’s creativity.
James Purnell announced the Creativity in Schools Review at his IPPR speech ‘Making Britain The World's Creative Hub’ on 16th June 2005. He reflected on what it was about our educational system that fosters creativity, indicating that “ we should build our policies on that success...to look at what more we can do to nurture young creative talent”.
In recognition of the importance of creativity for the UK’s future, Paul Roberts was asked to provide a clear set of assumptions to inform the basis of the Government’s future policy on creativity. His report provides a framework for creativity, which starts with Early Years, develops through mainstream education and leads to pathways into the Creative Industries. It recognises the rich array of creative opportunities for young people but argues for a more coherent “creativity offer”.
