Government consults on transitional arrangements for Gambling Act
The Department for Culture, Media and Sport today published its proposals for the implementation of the Gambling Act from 1 September 2007.
The transitional arrangements map out how the government proposes to move from the complex system of licences, permits and registrations under the current legislation, to the new system of regulation introduced by the Gambling Act 2005.
The proposals will ensure that all operators are required to abide by tough new rules relating to the protection of children and vulnerable people from 1 September 2007. At the same time, they are intended to:
- give operators a clear understanding of what they have to do and when, in order to convert their existing permissions;
- keep the administrative and cost burdens on industry to a minimum;
- allow sufficient lead time to allow the industry and regulators alike to prepare properly.
Today marks the start of a three-month consultation period on the proposals. DCMS welcomes all comments from local authorities, licensing justices, gambling operators, industry groups and anyone else interested in the Gambling Act.
The closing date for the receipt of comments is 2 May 2006.
