Live8 - 'Let's Make It The Biggest And Best Ever' Says Tessa Jowell
Culture Secretary Tessa Jowell today pledged her full support to ensure that the Hyde Park site for Live8 will be fit to host what she believes will be the 'biggest and best open-air concert the Capital has ever seen". The Royal Parks Agency, part of the Culture Department, is committed to:
- Expand the site by 50 per cent, to give it a capacity of 150,000
- Provide services and facilities for what will certainly be the biggest event of its kind in London since the Golden Jubilee (also hosted by the Royal Parks Agency),
- Clean up and reinstate the site after the concert so that the park's beautiful setting is restored for visitors at the earliest opportunity.
Tessa Jowell said:
"The Government is 100 per cent behind Live8. We want it to be the biggest and best open air concert that the Capital has ever seen.
"The G8 Summit in Gleneagles, which follows the concert, offers an opportunity for the world's developed nations to really make a difference - to do something positive for the Third World. Live8 will set the scene, and we are proud to be able to help make it happen.
"I pay tribute to the team at the Royal Parks Agency who have once again been happy to go that extra mile. We are all looking forward to a great day."
