The Department for Culture, Media and Sport has published a consultation paper on a new cultural test to better identify culturally British films that might be considered eligible to claim tax relief. The paper sets out the new proposals and asks The Cultural Test for British Films Final Framework questions in relation to those proposals.
This consultation paper should be read in conjunction with HM Treasury's consultation paper: The Reform of Film Tax Incentives: promoting the sustainable production of culturally British films.
The statutory criteria for the certification of films in Schedule 1 to the Films Act 1985 have not changed, although they may be changed in the future. Currently, applicants can continue to submit their applications as normal until further notice.
