Racing

Though we are responsible for government policy in this area, racing is regulated by independent bodies.

• Horseracing
  Regulated by the Horserace Regulatory Authority and governed by the British Horseracing Board (BHB)
• Greyhound racing
  Regulated by the National Greyhound Racing Club (NGRC) and the British Greyhound Racing Board (BGRB)

We also take close interest in the welfare of horses and greyhounds, though this issue is within the remit of the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA).
 
We also sponsor three independent public bodies, run in accordance with the provisions of the Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Act 1963 (as amended) and are not controlled by the Government:

• Horserace Totalisator Board (Tote)
• Horserace Betting Levy Board (Levy Board)
• Horserace Betting Levy Appeal Tribunal for England and Wales
