Choices for Adults - A Basic Guide
1) Betting
Before: Over 18s can bet in betting offices, at betting tracks like horse racecourses, over the phone, through the Internet or interactive TV. No statutory limits on stakes and prizes.
After: No change.
2) Casinos
Before: Over 18s have to join casino 24 hours in advance, or be a guest of a member. Can play table games and gaming machines. No statutory limits on stakes and prizes for table games. Maximum prize of £2000 for gaming machines. Mo more than 10 machines per casino. Alcohol available.
After: As before except no membership rule. In the largest casinos, maximum prize for gaming machines is unlimited. In the smaller casinos, still limited to £2000. More machines in all casinos. Betting available in all casinos, bingo available in regional and large, but not small.
3) Bingo
Before: Bingo operates as members clubs, with some restrictions on stakes prizes. Limited entitlement to gaming machines.
After: Membership rules and prize limits removed. No change on number of gaming machines.
4) Lotteries
Before: Lotteries for charitable purposes only, subject to prize limits.
After: No change
5) Pubs
Before: Low level gaming permitted plus a minimum of two £25 gaming machines.
After: No change
6) Adult Arcades
Before: £25 prize gaming machines permitted.
After: £25 prize gaming machines and four £500 gaming machines permitted.
