Definition of roll-a-dice
Roll-a-dice is a game where participants roll a number of dice (usually 6) with the opportunity of winning a large prize (often a car) if they roll all 6s.
Ability to run a roll-a-dice game
Roll-a-dice can only be run for purposes other than private gain.
The relevant legislation
The law relating to such promotions is contained within section 15 of the Lotteries and Amusements Act 1976. Copies of the Act are available from The Stationery Office, tel: 0870 600 5522.
How to run roll-a-dice
Under section 15 of the Lotteries and Amusements Act 1976 (provision of amusements with prizes at exempt entertainments) roll-a-dice can be run providing that:
(a) it is not the only, or only substantial, inducement to persons attending the entertainment but takes place at an exempt entertainment such as a fete, dinner, dance, sporting event etc; (b) the whole of the proceeds (after deducting expenses), are devoted to purposes other than private gain.
Registration requirements
There is no registration requirement for roll-a-dice.
