Removing barriers to growth among small and medium size enterprises (SMEs)
An estimated 90% of music businesses can be classified as Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs). It is clear that they play a central role in the health of the music industry and yet, like many SMEs, they face distinct problems.
DCMS works closely with the industry to identify the key issues faced by SMEs. In this context, DCMS funded a research project, undertaken by Kingston University's Small Business Research Centre, to look at the problems faced by small business in the music industry in accessing start up and development funding.
The report, called ' Banking on a Hit ', identifies the finance options available, the barriers to accessing these options, and ways in which industry and Government might best overcome these barriers.
