Encouraging creative growth
The music industry relies on creativity - from songwriters and composers to performers, managers and record companies. A combination of factors has enabled the UK to be successful, including the position of English as a world language, our cosmopolitan culture, the vibrancy of the live music scene, the creativity of the Indie sector and the willingness of the major record companies to invest heavily in nurturing new talent. The future of the music industry depends on fostering a continuing stream of new and original talent. This is why DCMS and the industry are working together to look at ways of developing and encouraging new talent at a grass roots level. A significant new development in this context is the establishment of the Live Music Forum in February 2004.
