Technical Issues
DCMS looks after policy on the allocation of frequencies for television and radio broadcasting together with reception matters, liaising with Ofcom which has overall control for the management of frequencies.
Reception advice
Ofcom is chiefly responsible for the provision of terrestrial television services in the UK.
Unfortunately, there are a number of areas across the UK where signals of an acceptable technical quality cannot be obtained. This can occur where the line of sight path between transmitters and consumers is obstructed by hills, buildings, or even by local atmospheric conditions.

You can also obtain advice on all digital television platforms - terrestrial, satellite and cable (and on improving analogue reception) from a reputable local aerial installer, who will be familiar with local reception characteristics.

The broadcasters have established a database, designed to show retailers and consumers if digital terrestrial television (DTT) is available at a given location based on individual postcodes.
If you would like to see if DTT may be available in your area, you can do so by visiting the Digital Television Group's website at: www.dtg.org.uk/retailer. Enter your postcode, and the resulting search will give you a prediction of the available level of DTT at your location.
Self-Help Television Scheme
The DCMS administers the Self-Help Television Scheme which enables people who cannot receive television services direct from the broadcasters' transmitters to operate their own low powered transmitters.
