Commercial Television

The Government ensures that the legislative framework for commercial television services helps promote innovation and competition and encourages the development of new channels.

Commercial television services include ITV, which consists of 15 regional services and GMTV, Channel 4, Channel 5, Teletext and local television services on terrestrial television, and a wide range of cable, satellite and digital services.

Ofcom is responsible for licensing and monitoring commercial television under the provisions set out in the Broadcasting Acts 1990 and 1996 and the Communications Act 2003.
