International Arts
There are two publicly-funded bodies that provide support for overseas work and exchanges: the British Council and Visiting Arts.
British Council
The British Council is the UK's international organisation for educational and cultural relations. It connects people worldwide with learning opportunities and creative ideas from the UK and builds lasting relationships between the UK and other countries. It has offices in 218 towns and cities in 109 countries worldwide.
It receives an annual grant from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, as well as funding from other UK Government Depts and agencies, international bodies, the private sector and revenue from its services such as UK-based training.
If you are an international artist or group and you interested in exhibiting, travelling or performing in the UK, or would like to know more about the arts in the UK see the arts pages of the British Council website.
NB: although the British Council supports arts projects, its priorities are specific to each country and it is not a funding body.
Visiting Arts
Visiting Arts is the UK agency for facilitiating work from overseas to be brought to the UK and developing cultural links abroad.
It receives funding from DCMS; the British Council; the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the Arts Councils of England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Visiting Arts cannot give funding to individual projects or organise tours or performances. It does, however, give some money to UK-based promoters as well as building international cultural exchanges and providing a range of information and advice.
Creativexport website
Creativexport is a British Council, UK Trade & Investment and DCMS initiative. It enables UK creative businesses interested in working internationally to explore the opportunities available.
