EU funding for arts
Applying for EU funding can be a long and complex process, but if you are successful you can secure significant funds.
There are basically two types of EU funding programmes: Trans-national Funds and Structural Funds.
Trans-national Funds
The Tran-national Funds are provided through a range of programmes run by the European Commission (EC). The current programme for the arts and culture is Culture 2000. NB: these funds will not support work at national level; there must be a clear European angle to the project and European partners must be involved.
Structural Funds
The Structural Funds address regional inequalities in the EU in order to promote more balanced economic and social development. They are jointly-funded by the EC and the governments of EU member states.
There are two principal Structural Funds: the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the European Social Fund (ESF).
ERDF aims to improve economic prosperity and social inclusion by aiding infrastructure development and diversification of industry.
ESF supports the creation or retention of jobs and funds training and equal opportunities initiatives to improve people's employability.
The application process for Structural Funds varies from region to region across the country. For information and guidance on applying you should contact the Government Office (GO) in your region. EUCLID can also help - see below.
