Cultural diversity
Celebrating our differences means fostering mutual understanding and nurturing mutual respect. We seek to ensure that cultural diversity is considered in all we do.
We recognise and celebrate the cultural diversity of our country. British culture is not a single entity; we should rightly speak of British cultures.
Cultural diversity is all about celebrating being different, and differences between people go much deeper than race alone.
Championing cultural diversity is one of Arts Council England's core ambitions. Arts Council England aims to encourage an environment where the arts reflect the full range and diversity of contemporary society, ensuring that everyone has access to excellent arts activity.
Arts Council England plays a role in championing equality in the arts, promoting social inclusion and supporting diverse organisations. Their Decibel programme, which supported the work of Black and Asian artists, came to an end in March 2004 and this approach is now integrated into the Arts Council's day to day work.
