Arts National Companies
Our principal role is to work with Arts Council England to ensure that the national arts companies provide the best possible service to as wide a range of people in the UK as possible. DCMS looks to our national companies to lead the way in promoting excellence, access, educational work and opportunities for all within the arts, and to be a beacon for Britain in the international fora.
We actively encourage the national arts companies to:
- Pursue arts excellence ("art for art's sake")
- Provide access to the arts for the diverse UK of today
- Promote interaction at a national level, including active participation at regional and local level
- Link up with the Creative Partnerships programme which gives young people the chance to work with creative professionals
- Share examples of good practice amongst themselves and with other arts organisations
We work with Arts Council England to:
- Support genuinely innovative programmes and projects that can build long term sustainability
- Encourage wider access to and participation in the arts for all our communities, including wider access to employment in the arts
- Achieve positive results for national company capital projects, for example, the successful refurbishment of the Royal Opera House
- Encourage the national arts companies to be at the forefront of progressive excellence in the arts.
