Liquor Licensing Statistics

This is the first time these statistics have been produced by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. The Department inherited responsibility for these statistics from the Home Office, as part of the transition of responsibility for alcohol and entertainment legislation in 2001. Liquor Licensing statistics were collected annually up to 1980 but following a review of Home Office Statistical Services completed in the same year, it was decided that they should be collected thereafter once every three years.

The latest data relates to the period July 2003 to June 2004 and are for England and Wales.

A press notice 'Number Of Bars, Restaurants And Off-Licences Revealed' has been issued to accompany the bulletin.

The next set of data is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2007.
