television without frontiers
We are currently involved in revising the Television Without Frontiers (TVWF) directive. This EU directive rests on two principles:
- The free movement of European television programmes within the internal market
- That television channels reserve more than 50% of airtime for EU programmes, with 10% of programmes made by independent producers
It also safeguards certain important public interest objectives, such as cultural diversity, the protection of children and the right of reply.
We continue to be involved in the revisions to the directive as part of our role promoting UK media interests in the European Union (EU), the Council of Europe (CoE) and other international forums.
