Science and Sustainable Development
Sustainable Development
Sustainable development has grown in definition over the last few years, away from just green issues, to involve the social and economic factors which contribute to the quality of life. DCMS is committed to supporting and promoting sustainable development in all aspects of its work.
Our plans for implementing sustainable development within the Department and among our sponsored bodies are set out in our Sustainable Development Action Plan, published in March 2006.
The action plan is informed by the cross-Governmental Framework for Sustainable Development in the Government Estate. A revised version of the Framework was published in June 2006.

Science
DCMS published its Science Strategy (PDF 67kb) in 2002 setting out how we intend to pursue our science interests. We were the first department to have our strategy reviewed by the Office of Science and Technology (now the Office of Science and Innovation). In their report they made 21 recommendations for DCMS to take forward.
DCMS sponsors a wide range of bodies which have a scientific remit, including National Museum of Science and Industry, Natural History Museum, Tate Gallery, Royal Armouries, English Heritage, UK Sport, and the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts (NESTA).
