Dr Landau enjoyed a successful business career by founding and running the free-advertising periodical Loot.

Ms Jowell said:

“Dr Landau has made an important and generous contribution to the arts in the UK over a number of years.  It is evident through his work with the National Gallery that Dr Landau has a great passion for the arts in this country and it is fitting that he should receive this honour.”
