With a pledge for £500,000 to set up new rehearsal spaces, the Government today underlined its commitment to support live music. In March this year, I announced the overall public sector funding package for the Olympic and Paralympic Games totalling £9.325bn. Of this total, £6.090bn including tax and £500m of initial contingency was identified as public sector funding for the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA). The remainder of the package covered security, sports and other non-ODA costs, together with a prudent contingency for ODA and security costs. The Government has today welcomed recommendations from UK Sport to modernise the UK’s approach to anti-doping, leading to the creation of an independent National Anti-Doping Organisation (NADO) with far reaching new powers. A £50 million Government investment to transform Tate Modern was announced today by Culture Secretary James Purnell. It will create a spectacular new building, increasing the gallery’s size by 60 per cent and allowing it to display far more of its permanent collection.
