Appointment of New DCMS Permanent Secretary

108/06

Culture Secretary Tessa Jowell today welcomed the appointment of Jonathan Stephens as Permanent Secretary at the Department for Culture Media and Sport in succession to Dame Sue Street DCB.

Tessa Jowell said:

"I'm delighted to welcome Jonathan to the Department.  His experience and energy will be just what DCMS needs as it gears up to deliver the best Olympic and Paralympic Games ever.

"I'm looking forward to working closely with him to keep all of the issues we deal with at the heart of our national life."

Jonathan Stephens said:

"I'm thrilled to be joining DCMS. It's a small department but with a big reach - at the heart of all those quality of life issues that bring fulfilment, excitement and interest to millions.

"And it helps to sponsor some of the biggest industries in Britain, from tourism, to communications, to fashion. All that, and the 2012 Games too. I can't wait to start."
