In doing so, fees are set in accordance with the 2005 Act and HM Treasury's Fees and Charges Guide and at a level, which enables the Commission to recover the full costs of delivering its responsibilities, taking one year with another, while ensuring fairness and value for money for the gambling industry.
The proposals set out in the document are a joint consultation exercise by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and the Gambling Commission and are the first to review the level of fees system overall.
The Secretary of State undertook to review fees this year in light of the Gambling Commission's initial experience of licensing, compliance and enforcement work with the industry.
The consultation document sets out the proposals for the fee levels to apply from the 1st August 2008 and invites comments on them by the 2nd June 2008.
