The consultation also invites views on how far in advance museums should be required to publish information about such objects.
The consultation will enable the Government to take into account the views of museums and galleries, the art trade, shippers and others who have an interest in this issue. It is possible that there will be a divergence of views received and the Government will have to balance these against the best interests of the UK as a whole. But it is important for interested parties to be able to express their views and concerns in an open consultation.
