Consultation on providing immunity from seizure for international works of art on loan in the UK

DCMS is seeking comments on a proposal to legislate to provide immunity from seizure for international works of art on loan in the UK.

Summary of responses for the consultation was published on 8 August 2006.

The purpose of this consultation exercise is to enable the Government to take into account the views of museums and galleries, the art trade, shippers and others who have an interest in cultural property.  It is possible that there will be a divergence of views received and the Government will have to balance these against the best interests of the UK as a whole.  But it is important for interested parties to be able to express their views and concerns in an open consultation.
