Hello, I'm 42 year old male and worried. I am sceptical of the Governments motives regarding the BBC, not precisely what this contribution is meant to be about but as I haven't been asked about Government interference with my BBC I though it worth stating anyway. I had little by the way of a formal education, Somerset didn't bother with those who failed their 11+. The BBC was my education, I have been brought up on the best Public Service Broadcaster in world, my interest in Science/Nature based subjects has been fostered by the BBC documentaries over the last three decades. I recall a statement by a guest on Women's Hour, who stated that it wasn't the place of television to 'educate' but to entertain, such ludicrous statements were the product of the John Birt era, I for one believe education can be entertaining. I am a 'donator' to Minnesota Public Radio in the USA, streamed via the Internet, I know what subscription Radio is like, for value for money the BBC is the best. a.. Re create a dedicated documentary unit within the BBC (television). It is ironic that BBC digital service rely heavily on old Horizon documentaries made in the mid to late 90's, the department that produced these programmes was disbanded during the Birt era. Most documentary efforts in recent years have been distinctly trivial in the way subjects have been presented. b.. Natural History Unit. As sub directory of the previous point. The recent death of the head of the BBC Natural History Unit, Bristol. could leave it vulnerable to the men (and women) in grey suites. This part of the BBC is a world leader and pioneer, its demise would be a crime. c.. Children's Programmes (CBBC) This is fourth generation Blue Peter house hold - brilliant - enough said. Programmes such as The Really Wild Show and Smart also find favour here. Radio I listen to radio virtually everyday, mostly current affairs and news but also natural history, science and music programmes. I work on shift, I rely heavily on Internet streaming of programmes (I'm listening to Andy Kershaw while typing this). Richard Salt.,
