Sirs, I live in Wemyss Bay in Renfrewshire. This is not a remote outpost but lies 30 miles West of Glasgow and 8 milesfrom the Inverclyde conurbation. As things stand at the moment, I pay precisely the same license fee as other users – the same as Londoners, Mancunians, Glaswegians – basically all of the UK. I can receive BBC 1 and BBC 2 and ITV although all are prone to weather interruptions. Channel four is just about watchable through the snow whilst channel five is something we hear others talk about but is unavailable to us. We cannot receive your digital channels at all without subscribing to a commercial satellite organisation such as Sky, to which I object to in principle. I have no faith in Mr Murdoch’s independent view of the world. Why, therefore, should I be supportive of BBC digital when it is provided for other people out of my licence fee. I cannot even receive all the terrestrial channels despite living in Scotland’s main population belt. BT have managed to bring broadband here so why cannot I watch what other television users do in exchange for my licence fee. Do not even think to ask of my approval for your digital services when you do not consider my location worthy of the trouble of providing it. Nick Robinson
