Dear Sir / Madam, I feel I must write to object strongly to any additional increase in the BBC License fee. We read in the papers, and see in the news, the multi-faceted-media that we now watch and listen too. A vast majority of this is offered free to consumers, courtesy of product placement, corporate sponsorship and advertising. The introduction of Cable, Satellite and now Digital television has increased exponentially this bombardment of “entertainment”. I feel the concept of a television tax, which the License fee surely is, has become obsolete. All the “services” offered by the BBC are now available freely from other sources, and yet by law, we must own a “license” to receive such pictures. To extend this even further, the fact that we may now have to pay an additional fee for new “digital” channels that has little impact n the country, and even fewer viewers, is very disturbing. In modern society “choice” is paramount. To choose which school to go to; to choose a doctor; even to choose which television channels we may watch. However, I vehemently object to paying for these services. Let those who watch contribute. If these numbers are not sufficient for such an enterprise to continue, then the market forces do their work. I look forward to receiving confirmation of receipt of my submission, Yours sincerely, Paul Landman
