REFERENCE LAID ASIDE
The Competition Commission has laid aside the reference
concerning the proposed acquisition of Railcare Limited by DaimlerChrysler
Rail Systems (UK) Limited.
The reference was made to the Competition Commission
on 20 November 2000 by Dr Kim Howells, Minister for Consumers and Corporate
Affairs.
The Commission has concluded that DaimlerChrysler Rail
Systems (UK) Limited and Babcock International PLC and Siemans PLC (the
owners of Railcare Limited) have, within the terms of section 75(5) of
the Fair Trading Act 1973, abandoned the proposal to make arrangements
for the acquisition. The Commission has accordingly, with the consent
of the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, laid the reference aside.

- The reference was made by Dr Kim Howells, acting on behalf of the
Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, on 20 November 2000 (see
DTI news release P2000/772 and Competition Commission News Release 59/00
dated 24 November 2000). It has been laid aside in accordance with the
provisions of section 75(5) of the Fair Trading Act 1973.
