OCTAGON MOTORSPORTS/BRITISH RACING DRIVERS CLUB MERGER
COMPETITION COMMISSION SEEKS EVIDENCE

Stephen Byers, Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, has asked the Competition Commission to look into the acquisition by Octagon Motorsports Limited of certain assets of British Racing Drivers Club Limited (BRDC).

The Commission will look at all aspects of the merger’s likely effects on the public interest, including the market for the provision of circuits for motor racing and related activities. The Commission has been asked to report to the Secretary of State by 6 August 2001. The report will be published later.

The Commission would like to hear from all interested parties, in writing by Thursday 10 May. To submit evidence please either write to:

Professor Paul Geroski, one of the Commission’s deputy chairmen, will chair the inquiry. The other members of the group are Peter Mackay, Dr Gill Owen and Graham Stacy.
