COMPETITION COMMISSION INVITES EVIDENCE ON THE PROPOSED ACQUISITION BY NUTRECO OF HYDRO SEAFOOD

Stephen Byers, Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, has asked the Competition Commission to look into the proposed acquisition by Nutreco International BV (Nutreco) of Hydro Seafood (Hydro).

The Commission will look at competition concerns in respect of salmon production and fish feed markets in the UK, and will consider whether the acquisition may be expected to operate against the public interest. The Commission has been asked to report to the Secretary of State by 16 November 2000. The report will be published at a later date.

The Commission would like to hear from all interested parties, in writing, by 7 August 2000. To submit evidence, please write to:
