Anticipated acquisition by Anglo American
plc of Johnston Group PLC
Cathryn Scott, who is a legal adviser on the Tarmac/Johnston
reference, has in the past acted for the owner of Tarmac,
Anglo American plc.
Before joining the Competition Commission, Dr Scott worked
at Linklaters, where she was an associate solicitor in the
EU/Competition Group. While Dr Scott was at Linklaters, she
advised Anglo American on a matter unrelated to the subject-matter
of the reference. Dr Scott believes that she has not acted
for Anglo American plc since early 2001, although she was
employed until January 2003 by Linklaters, who is advising
Tarmac on the Inquiry.
Dr Scott has not advised other clients in relation to the
aggregates industry.
The Commission is satisfied that neither Dr Scott's employment
by Linklaters, nor her former relationship with Anglo American
plc will affect the inquiry.
